  248. Support Materials Organization has introduced several major
  249. policy changes within its parts identification sector.
  250. These changes are effective April 1.
  251.  
  252. To reflect areas of responsibility more accurately, the name
  253. Parts Identification has been altered to Service Parts
  254. Identification (SPI).  The primary focus of SPI is the
  255. handling of technical inquiries involving identification,
  256. verification, and description of HP service parts required
  257. to maintain and repair HP hardware products.  SPI will
  258. support HP trade customers--self-maintainers, VABs, third-
  259. party support providers, and government prime contractors--
  260. and HP personnel.  New department hours are 6 am to 5 pm
  261. Pacific standard time, Monday through Friday excluding HP
  262. holidays.  The department is closed Fridays between 2 and
  263. 3:30 pm Pacific standard time.
  264.  
  265. SPI provides service parts information via two facsimile
  266. (fax) services, HP FAX Information Retrieval Support
  267. Technology (HP FIRST) and SPIFax.  HP FIRST is a fax-on-
  268. demand service using computer-prompted response technology
  269. and a separate telephone number available 24 hours a day,
  270. seven days a week.  HP FIRST has a current, comprehensive
  271. list of service parts for specific HP products that provides
  272. a breakdown by part type category, expanded descriptions to
  273. help identify parts quickly and easily, and current full
  274. list prices.  You may request parts price lists for specific
  275. product families and recommended parts stocking lists.  The
  276. documents are available at no cost from HP FIRST, 208-344-
  277. 4809 using a group 3 fax machine.

  309. In accordance with the corporatewide objective to streamline
  310. and simplify the HP sales process, the Customer Support
  311. Services Agreement (CSSA) will be obsoleted and a new master
  312. document titled Terms and Conditions of Sale and Service
  313. (T's and C's) will be introduced May 1 in the U.S. and
  314. between May 1 and November 1 in Europe and Intercon.
  315.  
  316. The HP support business sells support under the terms and
  317. conditions of the CSSA.  This is a perpetual contract signed
  318. by HP and its customers wherein individual exhibits are
  319. appended to the CSSA establishing specific terms and
  320. conditions for each support offering.  The appended
  321. documents often create duplicate references between the
  322. exhibits and the CSSA.
  323.  
  324. The new master T's and C's document eliminates the
  325. redundancies.  The language of the document has been
  326. shortened and streamlined wherever possible.  The effect of
  327. the T's and C's is to have shorter, more concise, easier to
  328. read, and less ambiguous agreements between HP and customers
  329. than before.
  330.  
  331. The updated agreement cover page (E00) refers to sales and
  332. service.  An optional purchase agreement exhibit that lists
  333. the support programs is a descriptive data sheet.
  334.  
  335. The rewritten acceptance paragraph reflects revenue
  336. recognition.  HP must preapprove any requirement for special
  337. test procedures if it is a condition of customer product
  338. acceptance and payment criteria.  A new paragraph on returns
  339. and upgrades clarifies HP ownership and defines time
  340. limitations for returns.  Freight has been changed from
  341. collect to prepaid for customers specifying special shipping
  342. instructions.  The updated copyrighted materials and
  343. software license paragraph reflects current licensing
  344. technologies and business needs.  Reference to aviation
  345. applications from the former nuclear and aviation
  346. application paragraph has been removed.

  348. Support exhibits
  349.  
  350. With the objective of the new T's and C's, Worldwide
  351. Customer Support Operation has modified most support
  352. exhibits.  All support exhibits that referenced the CSSA
  353. have been rewritten to include only those terms and
  354. conditions specific to the service referenced in the exhibit
  355. and eliminate items covered under the master T's and C's
  356. document.  Copies of the revised exhibits may be ordered
  357. from the Literature Distribution Center.  New publication
  358. numbers will be provided at field training sessions.

  361.  
  362. Field training for U.S. support agreement administrators and
  363. field managers begins in April.  All U.S. agreements with an
  364. effective date of May 1 and beyond should contain the new
  365. T's and C's.

  388. Beginning April 1, authorized U.S. VABs can use an 800
  389. telephone number to direct purchase certain HP sales tools
  390. and training materials stocked at Support Materials
  391. Organization, Roseville, California.

  393. VABs can choose from more than 25 self-paced (level 1)
  394. internal HP sales training courses that have been designed
  395. to meet the needs of the HP computer sales force.  Topics
  396. include HP multiuser and workstation product fundamentals,
  397. open systems, networking, information technology, CASE, and
  398. industry marketing and finance selling basics.  VABs may
  399. purchase some HP internal sales tools, such as the HP
  400. 9000 Series 800 price, configuration, and buyer's guides.

  404. To qualify for direct ordering of HP internal sales tools,
  405. VABs must be located within the U.S., have a current channel
  406. contract or catalog agreement with HP, and be listed in the

  1359. Effective April 1, changes to the HP 3000 Series 9X7LX and
  1360. 9X7 systems allow you to better compete with recent product
  1361. announcements regarding the IBM RS/6000.  An insert to the
  1362. 900 Series HP 3000 price guide reflecting these changes was
  1363. included in the April SalesLink mailing.
  1364.  
  1365. Several of the changes involve product restructurings.
  1366. Series 927LX now comes standard with 1.3 GB of disk, up from
  1367. 670 MB.  Customers were ordering the additional disk as an
  1368. option, so this change can increase competitiveness and
  1369. improve orderability.
  1370.  
  1371. Series 937LX and 937 now offer a 64-user license option
  1372. to provide customers with a more competitive offering at
  1373. this user level.  As a result, Series 947LX and 947 have
  1374. been restructured to include a 100-user license standard, up
  1375. from the 64-user license.
  1376.  
  1377. The changes to Series 927LX, 947LX, and 947 require a B
  1378. version of the product number.  For example, Series 927LX
  1379. must now be ordered as P/N A1771B.  As the original A
  1380. versions are no longer competitive, they have been removed
  1381. from the Corporate Price List.  Orders for these products in
  1382. backlog as of April 1 will ship as planned as A versions or
  1383. can be canceled and rebooked to the new B versions.  Backlog
  1384. orders for Series 947, 957, and 967 can be canceled and
  1385. rebooked to the next higher performing system for the same
  1386. price.  This gives customers more for their money while
  1387. protecting your quota.

  1503. Structured Solution Bundles (SSPs) will be obsoleted.  The
  1504. SSPs were established to provide a cost-effective X.25
  1505. solution for single 900 Series HP 3000 system sites.  With
  1506. the availability of host-based X.25 management for general
  1507. distribution on the upcoming HP MPE/iX release, 900 Series
  1508. customers have two X.25 solutions to select from, host-based
  1509. and HP OpenView PC-based X.25 management.  Customers have
  1510. maximum flexibility in selecting cost-effective solutions
  1511. and SSPs are no longer necessary.
  1512.  
  1513. Host-based X.25 management provides the capability to manage
  1514. an X.25 link from the 900 Series host instead of from a PC.
  1515. Operators can configure a system, asynchronous ports, and
  1516. X.25 links from their consoles.  Host-based X.25 management
  1517. is targeted for customers who have one 900 Series system on
  1518. a LAN, such as simple network environments, and customers
  1519. who want to manage the X.25 link from operator consoles.
  1520.  
  1521. HP OpenView PC-based X.25 management is targeted for
  1522. customers with multiple systems on the same LAN and multiple
  1523. types of devices, such as DTCs, switches, and PADs.  HP
  1524. OpenView PC-based X.25 management provides an intuitive and
  1525. easy-to-use graphical interface for centralized management.
  1526. The cost of the PC is shared among multiple network
  1527. management applications and the X.25 link is shared among
  1528. multiple systems.

  1576. for HP 1000 A-Series computers.  These disk drives are
  1577. supported under HP RTE-A Revision 5.1 or a more current
  1578. release.  The device driver DDQ30 and interface driver IDQ35
  1579. require Revision 5270 or later.  New generation records are
  1580. available for these disks on the HP 1000 SE Access system
  1581. (SEAS/SEASNS).

  1583. The disk drives are supported as both system disks with
  1584. start-up support or as peripheral disks.  The part numbers
  1585. listed are for the disk drives in standalone configuration.
  1586. The drives are also available as add-on mechanisms to HP
  1587. Series 6000 mass storage systems.

  1589. External cabinetry can hold three each of the disk drives
  1590. (order one cabinet and two kits).  The 420-MB disks can fit

  1870. Evaluation copies are available on different platforms
  1871. for HP OmniBack and OmniBack/Turbo.  The evaluation copies
  1872. provide product functionality, permitting customers to
  1873. evaluate thoroughly HP OmniBack or OmniBack/Turbo in their
  1874. environments.  The evaluation copies have a validation
  1875. period from three to six months.  After expiration customers
  1876. will still be able to restore data from media generated with
  1877. the evaluation copy software but will no longer be able to
  1878. generate new backups using the evaluation copy.
  1879.  
  1880. The evaluation copies will be no charge from April 1 to July
  1881. 31, and $50 after.  The evaluation software can be ordered
  1882. for HP 9000 Series 300, 600, and 800; for HP Apollo 9000
  1883. Series 400 and 700; and for Domain workstations.  A full
  1884. documentation set is included with each copy of the
  1885. evaluation software.

  2786. instrument controller market segment but can be used
  2787. anywhere a company does not want to invest heavily in
  2788. network equipment staff to maintain the network.  Customers
  2789. who update workstations (HP 9000 Series 200/300/HP Apollo
  2790. 9000 Series 400 to HP Apollo 9000 Series 700) on standard
  2791. LAN networks can use current workstations as nodes on SRM
  2792. networks.

  2794. SRM is a file and printer/plotter server for the HP 9000
  2795. engineering workstations and the HP Vectra PC with the HP
  2796. BASIC/DOS or Pascal measurement coprocessor.  SRM provides
  2797. the capability to share resources among workstations in a

  2866. Vectra 386/16N and 386/20N PCs will continue to ship with
  2867. the current revision (Novell only) of the boot ROM after
  2868. April 1 until they contain the new version.

  2872. The HP Vectra PC multiprotocol boot ROM can be combined with
  2873. any HP LAN adapter card.  Customers will be able to start up
  2874. from either a Novell NetWare or a Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1
  2875. server using the same boot ROM chip, receive a step-by-step
  2876. guide for easy installation and network configuration, and
  2877. benefit from optimal use of memory for applications and
  2878. hardware drivers; the boot ROM does not take up any
  2879. memory.  At $25 per individual boot ROM, this is inexpensive
  2880. compared to other boot ROMs on the market.

  2882. Identifying new versus old boot ROM
  2883.  
  2884. Through the set-up program:  Each boot ROM automatically
  2885. configures the set-up program to the network operating
  2886. system protocol it supports.  With current boot ROM, only
  2887. Novell options come up in set-up.  With new boot ROM both
  2888. Novell and LAN Manager options come up automatically.  If
  2889. there is doubt about which boot ROM is in a particular
  2890. machine, a quick look at the set-up will tell you.  You can
  2891. also look at the revision number on the chip itself:
  2892. Current boot ROM has the revision number A.01.XX.  New boot
  2893. ROM has the revision number A.02.XX.
  2894.  
  2895. Interchangeability between new and old boot
  2896. ROMs

  2898. New boot ROM is backward compatible on any HP Vectra 386/N
  2899. PC, regardless of its set-up program, BIOS version, or
  2900. manufacture date.

  2903. Vectra 386s/20 PC.  The LAN administrator manual, delivered
  2904. with P/N D2407A, documents the installation of the boot ROM
  2905. in the PCs and provides installation procedures of remote
  2906. start-up services for both LAN Manager and Novell.  Only
  2907. Revision 2.1 of MS LAN Manager supports remote start-up
  2908. capabilities.  LAN Manager 2.1 works on OS/2 Revision 1.3.
